30 Oct

During pregnancy, our body is transforming which includes your skin as well. While pregnancy can leave some lucky ladies looking gorgeous, stunning with luscious locks and clear complexion, for others, all that extra hormonal activity can have the opposite effect. You may end up suffering from a variety of pregnancy skin issues.

Here are some of the effectual ways to take care of your skin during pregnancy.

1. Oily skin with breakouts

Women face hormonal breakouts during pregnancy as your skin becomes oily because of all the hormonal changes. You mostly experience nastiest breakouts during the first trimester of pregnancy. Imagine having a pimpled face along with morning sickness, yuck!

Remedy

Use such products which contain acne-fighting elements in order to treat hormonal breakouts. Using clarifying cleanser is one perfect idea as it reduces bacteria from skin and helps to fight acne for hours. Apply this 1-2 times a week to get purified and pores free skin. You can also use products which contain glycolic acid, alpha hydroxyl acid, or witch hazel. Get in touch with your doctor before using any of these ingredients!

2. Dry patches

During pregnancy your body gets dehydrated due to which your skin becomes dry and you might start having dry patches and crumbling skin. To fight this challenge, you have to step up your water game.

Remedy

It is suggested to wash your skin with a soap-less rinse-off cleanser, so find such products which contain elements such as conditioners and botanical oils like Sunflower Oils and Avocado oils, and humectants. Use of such products will soothe and moisturize your skin immediately. It will repair your skin’s dryness and will give you a smooth skin.

3. Discoloration

When you are pregnant, the most important thing to protect your skin from, is harmful UV rays. It is possible that your skin becomes hyper-pigmented, as you are progressing through each trimester.

Remedy

To protect your skin from discoloration, apply antioxidants sunscreen products which contain at least SPF 30 and Vitamin C. It is better to use higher SPF sunscreen, if you are going in the midday sun or at the beach.

6 Ways to Bring out the Leader in You

26 Oct

In the workplace, do you observe individuals milling around with zero progress? Do you feel that, in the daily hullabaloo, your objectives stay only objectives and not culminate into achievements? Then, perhaps it is time for you to rise and take things in your hands.

Among all the inspiring endeavors which one comes across while working in the field, bringing out the leadership qualities in oneself can be the most exciting yet challenging thing to do. A person aspiring for the title of leader has to continually exhibit effectiveness, suitability, and reliability within the workplace. To bring out good leadership skills in yourself, being in a position of authority is not necessary. You can garner the respect of a leader no matter which step of the company ladder you are on.

Do you aspire to bring out the leader in you? Here are a few tips that can be helpful for you to position yourself as a leader in your organization:

1. Effective Communication

Want to effectively lead in your workplace?  Communication is the key which affects all the situations in a negative or positive way. A leader must possess the quality of effective interaction with his seniors, juniors, clients and advisers. To practice better communication skills, one must stay confident and welcoming. Moreover, being a good listener is also essential. You need to hear people first before you wish to be heard.

2. Be Proactive

In order to bring out the leader in you, you need to be proactive. Good leaders do not hesitate in going an extra mile for the betterment of the organization. Offer your assistance in those tasks which you consider valuable in polishing your skills.

3. Be Supportive to Your Colleagues

By helping other people to polish their skills, you can deal with your colleagues in a better way. Try to create a positive environment by supporting your co-workers. When you collaborate effectively with your colleagues, compliment them and help them grow, you automatically become someone whose opinions are respected and valued. To be a good leader, you must be capable of influencing your colleagues to achieve a target and must add to the organization and unity of the team.

4. Attend Seminars on Leadership Training

Being a leader may be a natural thing for some people. However, many qualified professionals struggle in bringing out their leadership qualities. Take help from training programs to modify your leadership skills. You can even opt for online courses.

5.Believe in Yourself

The most important thing which leads you to success is your self-confidence. When you believe in yourself, it reflects from your work, body language, decisions and from your progress. When you appear confident, you are more likely to commendably lead other people.

6. Learn to Give Credit

To be a good leader, you need to learn how to motivate your team members. The more you share the credit fairly, the better leader you become.

Always remember;

“Power isn’t control at all–power is strength, and giving that strength to others. A leader isn’t someone who forces others to make him stronger; a leader is someone willing to give his strength to others that they may have the strength to stand on their own.”

5 Ways to Say NO without Feeling Bad

23 Oct

Do you often regret saying ‘yes’ when people come to you asking for a favor because you are too quick to say yes and too hesitant to say no? Well, it’s time to learn to say NO! Read on and master the art of refusing politely.

As someone who is leading a professional life with a hectic schedule, you may already have your plate quite full of chores and which is why you need to think before you agree to any point thrown at you. There is a fine line between helping others and being exploited by others and you need to recognize that line, for your own progress.

To be an efficient professional, you sometimes need to take a step back and say “no”, even if the demand comes from someone superior to you in the workplace. Saying “yes” to every single prospect can be disrupting and demanding, particularly when your own timetable is already over-flooded with responsibilities and appointments. Addition of more tasks merely to gratify others can make you overwhelmed which will eventually make it hard for you to satisfy these requests in the end.

How can you say NO in a polite and professional way? Here are a few ways to help you practice the art:

1. Ask Time for Considering the Offer

If you think there is a slight chance you might regret saying yes, ask for more time. Say something like “Let me think a little about it”. Doing so helps you gain some time to consider and think things through before making your final decision.

2. Appreciate the Gesture

If someone tries to involve you in a project or take your help in executing an idea, do not blurt out a yes or no instantly. Appreciate them by being positive or by complimenting them slightly. Enhance their confidence by giving positive remarks about the idea and then ask for exemption from the project.

3. Express that You Already Have Commitments

If you consider that the offer is something which may be useful for you in the future, you can keep your way open by saying something like “I would love to assist you in the task but I have a few plans for now”. This helps in getting the offer again in the future, in case you would like to do a similar project in coming days.

4. Show Willingness

To be polite, you need to show the willingness to accept the offer, particularly if the offer comes from a superior. Highlight the demands of your current, busy schedule in a way that it does not seem like you are complaining about the workload and then say no.

5. Be Straightforward

If nothing works, just take a deep breath and deny in a straightforward manner. Start your sentence by saying “Sorry, but I can’t be of assistance”.

5 Things You Don’t Learn in College

22 Oct

Hello Readers!

Hope you all are having a great Sunday so far. These days I am working on a few projects that involve researching about available career prospects and professional advice for fresh grads and young employees. And, I thought I should share some career-oriented posts with you all as well. So, be prepared for a series of such posts. Here comes the first one. I hope you’ll like it. 🙂

When we are in college, nothing really matters more than securing extra marks in a subject or passing an exam we dread the most. However, once we graduate and enter into our professional life, at some point, we realize that what we learnt in college is no longer completely applicable. In fact, we are expected to learn on the job. We have to be more open to developing new abilities that are imperative to succeed in the competitive environment of the corporate world.

Here’s a list of some skills we often have to learn once we graduate, which remain with us throughout our career life and beyond.

1. Learn to set boundaries and be responsible

As soon as we land into our first job, the first thing we are expected to do is be responsible. We are considered responsible for all our actions and decisions. In this regard, we have to set boundaries and then stick to them. Then only we are viewed as a responsible and reliable person in the workplace. We soon come to realize that we can’t be good at everything. Hence, it is important to recognize our strengths and weaknesses and prioritize what matters the most.

2. Engage a mentor

Always remember; you are never too old to learn. There is absolutely no harm in looking up to someone you can trust. Engage a reliable, more experienced person to help you recognize opportunities and discover ways to prosper.

3. It is okay to fail

Yes, you read it right. As long as you are learning something out of your failure, it is alright to fail. You emerge as a true winner if every wrong decision teaches you a valuable lesson. All you have to do is work on developing the courage to rise whenever you fall. Expertise in this area will get you a little closer to victory.

4. Put your own ideas on the table

Once in a while, surprise your manager (in a good way!) by putting forward your own ideas. This will not only convey your dedication to the boss but also portray you as an independent go-to person. Always focus on delivering first-class work, which simplifies the boss’ job and begins prepping you for the subsequent level.

5. Be comfortable in your own skin

Easier said than done! This is one of the toughest things to do once you enter into your professional life; especially when there is so much competition around. While it is good to challenge yourself, there is no need to go out of your comfort zone at every prospect and end up feeling depressed. Identify your fortes and cultivate an area of proficiency that stimulates you.

If you’re still in college then these tips will help you predict what to expect once you graduate. And, if you have already started your career then it is never too late to learn and prosper. What did you skip in college that you wish you had learned? Share with me!
