Skin Woes During Pregnancy? No More!

30 Oct

Pregnancy can be a very special time in your life. You start preparing for your new arrival- getting the nursery ready, researching baby names and registering for your baby shower. You are so excited and look forward to every new experience and change that pregnancy has to bring along, except for one: skin woes.

During pregnancy, our body is transforming which includes your skin as well. While pregnancy can leave some lucky ladies looking gorgeous, stunning with luscious locks and clear complexion, for others, all that extra hormonal activity can have the opposite effect. You may end up suffering from a variety of pregnancy skin issues.

Here are some of the effectual ways to take care of your skin during pregnancy.

1. Oily skin with breakouts

Women face hormonal breakouts during pregnancy as your skin becomes oily because of all the hormonal changes. You mostly experience nastiest breakouts during the first trimester of pregnancy. Imagine having a pimpled face along with morning sickness, yuck!

Use such products which contain acne-fighting elements in order to treat hormonal breakouts. Using clarifying cleanser is one perfect idea as it reduces bacteria from skin and helps to fight acne for hours. Apply this 1-2 times a week to get purified and pores free skin. You can also use products which contain glycolic acid, alpha hydroxyl acid, or witch hazel. Get in touch with your doctor before using any of these ingredients!

2. Dry patches

During pregnancy your body gets dehydrated due to which your skin becomes dry and you might start having dry patches and crumbling skin. To fight this challenge, you have to step up your water game.

It is suggested to wash your skin with a soap-less rinse-off cleanser, so find such products which contain elements such as conditioners and botanical oils like Sunflower Oils and Avocado oils, and humectants. Use of such products will soothe and moisturize your skin immediately. It will repair your skin’s dryness and will give you a smooth skin.

3. Discoloration

When you are pregnant, the most important thing to protect your skin from, is harmful UV rays. It is possible that your skin becomes hyper-pigmented, as you are progressing through each trimester.

To protect your skin from discoloration, apply antioxidants sunscreen products which contain at least SPF 30 and Vitamin C. It is better to use higher SPF sunscreen, if you are going in the midday sun or at the beach.

There are a number of other issues as well. However, the above three are the most common troublemakers that can mar your pregnancy experience. Got anything to add? Please share with me!

To detox or not to detox…

13 Mar

Do you know your body is exposed to numerous poisonous substances called contaminants, artificial food constituents, and insecticides that harm our body? We are in continuous interaction with damaging viruses and contaminants. They are present in the water we drink, the food we consume, the air we inhale and so on. It is very tough to escape from them. These toxins are actually a source of numerous health problems that have been introduced in our systems over the years. Worry not! It is easy to get rid of these harmful toxins by a process called ‘Detox’.

What exactly is a detox?

In simple words, detox is a procedure in which an individual incorporates changes in his or her lifestyle to clear the body of contaminants. These routine changes normally involve refraining from certain injurious things and improving body processes. Some modifications are transitory, for example; following a cleansing regimen while others are long-lasting.

Want to get rid of these toxins in an effective way? Here are a few tips:

1. Opt for Organic Foods

The best way to eliminate toxins from your body is to support the body’s natural cleansing process by reducing its burden and lessening the contaminants you put in the body. Opt for organic food products over junk and other treated foodstuffs.

2. Workout and Meditation

Workout and meditation aid in maintaining a fit body. Working out makes you perspire, and perspiration benefits by releasing contaminants through skin. Also, meditation frees your mind and decreases tension that can be as deadly to your well-being as chemicals.

3. Nutrition

Cleansing your body is not just restricted to what you elude, but is also concerned with what you ingest. Hence, it is important to consume a healthy nutrition. There are numerous foods that help in detoxification such as garlic, lemon, broccoli shoots, beans, and raw vegetables.

4. Enema Kits

The idea of using an enema kit may make you wince at first but it is actually an effective way to get rid of body toxins. It is a technique to flush waste products out of your colon. While there are multiple enema kits available in the market, coffee enemas are a popular choice to be used for the therapeutic treatment for multiple illnesses such as constipation, weariness and liver cleansing.

5. Cleanse the Air You Inhale

Another way to naturally detoxify the body is to breathe in clean air. While it is not possible to control the entire atmosphere, apparently you can control the environment in your house and work spaces. The most reliable way is to invest in an air purifier. However, if a good quality air purifier is a bit too heavy on your pocket then it is best to get a few house plants that act as natural air purifiers.

6. Cleanse Your System With Water

Want to know another cheap yet effective way to detox the body? Just watch out what you drink! Water is perhaps the most valued tool for cleansing your system. The body’s most elementary roles need water. Be it to produce saliva, aid with sweating, and eliminate waste. Drink plenty of water. Replace coffee, tea and sports drinks with a glass of clean water. If you find the taste too bland then add in a few drops of lemon juice or slices of cucumber to your water.

Have you performed a detox of any sort?  Share with me your experience!

Magic Oil a.k.a Almond Oil

25 Oct

Hello lovelies! First of all, sorry for not being regular at blogging although I’ve been updating my Facebook page and Instagram religiously. I have a lot to share and review and will soon get back to proper writing. Today, I’ll be talking about an extremely important and beneficial change that I recently made to my daily skin care routine. I replaced my expensive, elaborate list of moisturizers/lotions with just one, easily affordable and 100% safe miraculous product. Well, the title says it all. It’s a pure Bitter Almond Oil. Before I divulge into my verdict, let me just give you a brief introduction of this little bottle of goodness.

We all know that almonds are naturally high in vitamin E and are ideal as hair care and skin care products. Their oil is smooth, non-greasy and has a pleasant fragrance. You can use it as an affordable massage oil, a natural moisturizer, or to keep your scalp and hair healthy and strong.

Almond oil has two variants: Sweet and Bitter. Sweet almond oil is not only used for skin care but also plays a significant culinary role in preparing goodies such as marzipan, cookies, cakes, and other treats. Despite its name, it is also a primary ingredient in condiments such as mayonnaise and a variety of sauces and dressings. It is basically a base oil.

Bitter almond oil, on the other hand, is an essential oil. It has a variety of benefits as well. It is a potent facial cleanser and is also great for hair and nails, if massaged regularly. However, due to the high amount of cyanide in bitter almonds, one must be careful when using this oil. It is never a good idea to apply or ingest too much.

Now comes the main part, i.e. my opinion. Ever since I have started using pure bitter almond oil, I am amazed at how smooth, trouble-free and supple my skin has become. Earlier I used to suffer from dry patches and uneven facial skin tone but this essential oil has totally eradicated all my skin problems. I use it as a moisturizer at night and also to hydrate my lips. I even use it as a hair oil that works well for brows and lashes as well. Additionally, I use it as a makeup remover too. So, you see how this little bottle of magic has replaced most of my pots of chemicals 🙂

I’d strongly recommend you all to give it a try. Don’t forget to share your results with me. Good luck!

DIY treatments for dark elbows/knees

1 Jun

Hi lovelies! Yesterday I posted some natural remedies to prevent dark circles which were greatly appreciated by you all. Thanks a lot for visiting my blog and appreciating my write-ups 🙂

Today I’ll talk about some really effective remedies to prevent dark elbows and knees which are mostly common in South Asians. Nothing can be more embarrassing than having knees and elbows with uneven skin tone, especially when you wear sleeveless/short dresses. Don’t you worry. I am here to help 🙂

Dark elbows/knees ars basically due to dead cells and require regular exfoliation. So, if you have any scrub or exfoliator at home then use it to clean your elbows/knees. Please don’t forget to moisturize your skin after exfoliation, else, it will get darker. Some natural ingredients also serve the purpose equally well. Below are my top 3 effective and all-natural remedies.

1) Turmeric

Make a paste of 1tsp turmeric powder, 1tsp granulated sugar and 1tsp olive oil. Apply on your dark areas in circular motion. Rinse off. Turmeric is a natural skin brightening agent while sugar will scrub your skin. Olive oil will condition and moisturize the skin.

2) Baking Soda+Milk

Mix enough milk in baking soda to dampen it only and not form a runny solution. Apply this thick paste on your elbows and knees. Let it dry for 15mins and scrub off. Don’t forget to moisturize later.

3) Gram Flour+Lemon

Mix gram flour and lemon juice to form a paste. This is an excellent scrub for skin. Apply twice a week at least for better results.

You may opt for any moisturizer after these treatments but I’d recommend using pure almond oil for this purpose. It is enriched with vitamin E and really soothes the skin. I hope you’ll try these low-cost remedies at home. Do tell me if you find them effective and also share if you have any suggestions.

5 natural remedies to get rid of dark circles

31 May

Hi beauties! If you are sick and tired of stubborn dark circles under your eyes then this post is exactly for you. Actually a friend asked me to share some tips regarding dark circles so I thought I should post them on my blog to facilitate lots of ladies who spend a huge amount of money on expensive eye products and treatments. Most of these products either do not cause any change or bring about only temporary improvement. In fact, a few weeks back I reviewed a miraculous yet cheap eye cream by Eva B-white which works wonderfully for me. I am not sure if it is available outside of the Middle East so I thought I should share some natural and 100% safe remedies with you all.

Below are the top 5 most effective remedies I have come across.

1) Tomatoes

Tomatoes are blessed with ingredients that help you get rid of tan and dark circles quite effectively. Just take a slice of tomato and rub it around your eyes. You can also use a cotton ball to apply tomato juice. Leave it on for 10mins and wash off with plain water. Apply twice daily for faster results.

2) Potatoes

Just like tomatoes, a slice of potato also helps in reducing dark circles around eyes. For better results, extract juice of a raw potato and mix with a few drops of lemon juice. Apply this mixture with a cotton ball all around your eyes and rinse off.

3) Cold Raw Milk

Raw milk has enzymes that whiten the skin naturally. Hence, dip a cotton ball in cold raw milk and apply around your eyes. You can also make a paste of raw milk and a few drops of honey. This will also condition your under eye skin.

4) Cold Tea Bags

This one works like magic. Put your used tea bags in fridge for around 20 mins and place them on your eyes. Let them rest for 10mins. You’ll surely feel a calm, soothing effect.

5) Cucumber

This is my favorite remedy. Crush a piece of cucumber and add a few drops of lemon juice and honey. Mix well. Apply around your eyes and wipe off after 15 mins. You can also store this mixture in fridge for a week. It does wonders to the delicate under eye skin.

These are a few easy tips which can bring about great change if applied regularly (at least twice a day). Also, focus on your diet and drink plenty of water. If you know of any other remedy then please share with me via comments.
